Hazelnuts: How do Hazelnuts Get into the Nutella

Hazelnuts grow on large trunks in bushes. In the U.S, they grow on single trunks because to separate the hazelnut from the trunk, they use machinery. Four machines are used in the process of separation: the sweeper, the harvester, the nut cart and the forklift. The sweeper is used to bring all the nuts to the center of the row. Then the harvester separate the nuts from any twigs, leaves, etc. The harvester also picks up the nuts and dumps them into the nut cart. The forklift brings crates to store the nuts in, and stacks all the crates. Once the nuts are put in crates, they are sent to the Nutella factories where the Nutella workers cut open the nuts to make sure that there are no worms or bugs living inside. Next, the nuts are cleaned properly, then mixed with the rest of the ingredients. There are about 50 hazelnuts in each single regular sized jar of Nutella. They are crushed into tiny little pieces, then mixed in a huge mixer to properly mix the ingredients.
